Most professors these days utilize PowerPoint as a way to lecture and show students their notes. This post is all about how to take notes on PowerPoint and the best PowerPoint study tips for college students.
Once you’re in college, you realize pretty quickly that most of your college professors use PowerPoint to teach you the materials from the class. Sometimes these PowerPoints have a lot of the information for the test, but sometimes it is just an outline of the content for the test. When there is not a lot of information on the PowerPoint, you should be taking extra notes during lecture. Some students also read the textbook and add extra notes to the PowerPoint slides that way.
If you are just adding all your lecture notes directly onto the PowerPoint slide, it’s going to be very difficult for you to study those notes later. The notes will fill the slide and become very small and difficult to navigate and read.
If you want to take notes the RIGHT way on PowerPoint in college, then read on for my top tips!
Print out the slide
Printing out the PowerPoint slides allows you to write out any extra notes right next to the PowerPoint slide.
First open the PowerPoint and go to “file” then “print” at the top.
Next click on “layout” then choose “handouts 3 slides per page”
It will look like this once it is ready to print.
Once they are all printed out, you can write extra notes right next to slide. If you learn information better by writing things out, then I recommend this note-taking technique for you!
Using “notes” on the PowerPoint slide
This tip is great for people who have a lot of extra information to type out for each slide.
First, find “click to add notes” on the bottom of the slide
Next, drag the line above the “click to add notes” to make the box bigger. Copy and paste the notes from your PowerPoint slide into the “click to add notes” box. It should look like this…
Now you have plenty of space to type out your notes for each slide, without having to worry about it turning into tiny text on the slide. I really like this method for taking notes because I can add a heading of “lecture” and a heading of “textbook”, so I know exactly where the information came from when I’m studying each slide.
Hope these tips help you utilize PowerPoint in the most effective way possible!
Good luck studying!
